Picked up my first Vette last week. Anyways,...the car has a pretty noticable shake/vibration under braking. I'm guessing warped rotors. I've priced the rotors,...cheapest I've found them it about $100 a piece. Plus I would need to replace the pads also. So I'm looking at a few hundred dollars just to replace it all with stock stuff. So I was thinking about upgrading. I've heard about a Baer brakes upgrade kit for the fronts of our cars. Thoughts? Price? Also a friend of mine who use to have a '93, said he upgraded his brakes to the "big" ZR-1 front brakes? I drove his car and it stopped exceptionally well. What would be the cost of this option? What all needs to be changed?
I just did the GT 13" upgrade they call the "ZR-1 big brake kit" on my '92 LT-1. If you want the particulars, drop me an email and I'll give you all the info on it. Fairly staight forward installation with minor complications.

Re: Brake questions/upgrades...... (ittlfly)
ittlfly is correct. Brake jobs are so easy it's not even funny. I resurfaced the rotors on my brother's '87 'vette in an hour and a half... ONE hour for the local parts shop to do the actual resurface work and 30 minutes total for me to take down and re-install. I changed the pads on my '86 a couple months ago, took me under 35 minutes.
Just a lil info for ya, you probably DO NOT need to change ur rotors or pads. Vettes have a history of a shaky brake feel at the higher speeds that come through the pedal, but don't worry about this it is normal. Mine does it, my friends do it, and when R&T wrote an article on the 94 Vette vs the Supra, VR4, and 300ZX they also commented on the vibrating/shaking brakes. As any car you have just purchased have them checked out just in case, but chances are atleast your rotors or just fine. Just my 2 cents
If you have the 12" brakes I warped mine twice, and then upgraded to the 13s with GS calipers. The brakes are discussed recently http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=245280 I have never warped the 13s and they have only faded once with PFC street pads. Mike maybe able to get the GS calipers cheap for you.

That is just not true. I have great breaks.
When I bought the car the pads were worn uneven and were shot. The calipers were hanging up from improper service and the fluid needed to be flushed. The caliper pins had not been replaced since 1989 and were corroided and worn. The brake lines were beginning to crack. I repaired all of this and brakes worked great.
My point is there is nothing basically or inherently wrong with the brake system. If it is broke, just fix it.
Jeff Kopp can also supply you with the C5 caliper assemblies as well as the rotor assemblies for an upgrade, at very reasonable prices. You can also get the Z06 red calipers for the same price, I believe.
The adapters are available from Electro-Dynamics, ranging from economical for the unpainted heat treated ones, to more expensive for the plated and stainless steel ones. Check here: http://www.electro-dynamics.com/brakes/brakes2.html
