1985 Vette. I'm removing my dashboard to refinish the color. I can't seem to figure out how to get the "pillow" out of the dash on the passenger's side. I removed the top of the dashboard with no problem and the two top screws from the "pillow". I refer to the "pillow" because I don't know what it's actually called. It's the padded area that looks like it would have an airbag in it. There are two screws holding the bottom in place and I can see them but I can't get to them because there is a carpeted pan attached at the bottom of the dashboard that 's in the way. If I could figure out how to remove the carpeted pan I could probably get to the two screws. Any ideas?
That thing is a real basterd! I used a mini hack saw and I laughed like a maniac for about 5 minutes carying it around above my head in triumph once I finally got it out of the car! You just don't understand how much I hated the looks of that thing
It is tough, I ended up using a wrench to break loose the nuts then my hands to spin them off. I too replaced it with a flat panel. I like the clean look much better myself. Let me know if you want a pic.
I had a feeling it was going to be a bear. But I'll get it out of there. JonM, that link really shows alot, as far as removal of the dashboard components. It's going into my repair manual as reference material. Thanks everyone.
