Default big project ahead atleast for me...

Well I've gathered up the parts I needed to do the optispark change. I have the optispark, a new ignition module, spark plugs and wires and a fuel filter. Thing is I've never done work like this on any car of mine. I'm not illiterate I do know what's what and where but my father usually helps me. Sad thing is my dad was diagnosed with throat cancer due to cigarettes and its at a agressive stage and he's getting surgery and radiation treatment afterward this week so he's out of commision for a quite a while. So my question is how hard and how much time should I expect with this job. Any helpful info on what I should expect and maybe some insight on the job what to look for or be careful with? Thanks in advance

I can't say that I've ever done an opti change, but take your time and take photos to help recall what goes where when re-assembling. If you get stuck I'm sure there's plenty of folks here to help out. I hope your dad's up and around soon to help

Sorry to hear about your Dad! Best wishes with the treatment.

You should be fine with the change. It's really just a matter of putting things back like they were. I replaced mine 3 times after some issues with a cam swap and believe me it gets easier every time. I dare say I could probably do it now in 3- 4 hours. Being your first time you should do it in a weekend easy if not a long Saturday. As mentioned, just keep up with your bolts. Keep your plug wires straight. Take a few pictures as you go for reference. Good luck!

I have not done it yet but if you have different bolt lengths make sure you put them back in the correct spot.I also think you will neeed to put sealent on some or all of the bolts for the water pump.

Take some pics, use zip lock bags with labels, whatever you need to do to remember where things go.
I use some paper and draw a shape of what Im looking at and place all the nuts and bolts on the paper where they were taken off of the car...
Good luck! Let us know how it goes and ask ?s if you need!

If your waterpump is not new you need one of those.
Permatex sealant for the bolts in the waterpump whether you replace it or not.
New waterpump gaskets whether you replace it or not.

I also have on hand lots of brake part cleaner and shop paper towels to clean as I go.

Remember when you undo the bolt that holds the power steering resevoir to the ICM/Coil mount that there is ANOTHER bolt at the bottom of that bracket. If you don't remove it you will bend the bracket getting the ICM/coil mount off the car.
