No idea. Chrome and performance are usually two separate categories.

You might try posting this in off topic rather than tech/performance

i have steel chrome 'carrera' shocks, heim ends top/bottom, inverted, on the front my 86...small mod needed to upper mount to use the heim vs oem stud...had a bunch of slightly 'abused' stuff on the shelf, left from circle trick racers, decided to try for giggles, 'turn-in' is so good it's almost shocking (sorry abt pun)...gonna put the matching rears on before spring roll-out (hopeful)...carrera is now owned by qa1 AFAIK

chrome weighs less than paint...also lightens your wallet faster than paint if that matters...common for race stuff to be just 'california chrome' one dip with no copper/nickel prelim dips as corrosion prevent is not critical, saves weight.

To get a "chrome" look it has to be dipped in nickel first. Chrome is actually clear and just makes an otherwise dull nickel finish shine!

our racer bumpers/etc were shiny steel that got just a single dip at a local bumper rechrome shop, looks good and 'wears' better than paint...another local plating shop nearby does 'hard chrome' on hydraulic cylinder rods for wear resist, will not even do other plating dip, shines great...'low buck' custom auto chrome wheels rust/peel in short, several plating pros have said those are 'calif chrome'...could 'shiny steel' underwear suffice ?

I just put the QA1 shocks on my '93 yesterday. They are chrome and go on with no modifications.

I haven't driven on them yet because I'm waiting for some bushings for the rear sway bar.

Yup, those QA1's are the ones. Very nice shocks too. More of a machined aluminum finish (which I like more than chrome personally...), but very nice.

Your killin' me!

You can save the same amount of weight by throwing out the ashtray.

Of course there's the ol' saying, "If it don't go, chrome it".

qa-1's are alum. with a clear coat, if doing coil overs the spring is p.coated silver.
