I suggest that while you have the panel off, that you apply this fix since odds are good that they ribs will be broken.

Default Free Bonus- Brighter courtesy lights

I followed your directions for my sweeps, thank you for that!
You didn't mention how much dirt and grime accumulates inside your courtesy lights (I saw the dirt in your picture, too!). When I cleaned the lenses, I couldn't believe how much brighter the courtesy lights became!

I am working on my 92 which is a little different I have the plastic screw inserts and am not sure of the best method to remove them, also I am trying to remove the exterior door handle and have not figured out how to remove the rod going from handle to lower mechanism it is held on with a plastic piece and I am afraid if I pry on it too hard it will break, there has to be easy method for both of these. Sure would love a little help

The plastic screw inserts pull straight out once the screw is out. They snap back in place or fall to pieces. They can be had from the catalogs or from clips and fasteners website (much cheaper).

The plastic clip that connects the lock rod to the key lock is sold on the "HELP" aisle in a little pack of assorted do-dads and is cheap if you break it but it is a PITA to replace IME. I used long thin needle nose pliers to get the rod snapped back in when I had to replace one that failed.

Look on eBay for door handles that are for sale (don't need to buy them). The images should help you figure out how the rod connects.

The Haynes manual is wrong for this year. It says to lower the window but I don’t see why. It also says to disconnect the battery which is smart but I didn’t do because I am such a rebel…

Stick a flat head into the top of the door light and pry that sucker down.

Don’t worry about these connections for now.

There is a screw hidden behind the light.

There is a screw behind the handle.

There are two screws in the arm rest handle which need to come out.

And here is the sneaky part. The door lock slider will safely pop out when you give it a good tug towards you.

See?

It is time for the little plastic rivets along the bottom of the door. I was able to tug on bottom of the panel and they just popped out.

Here is the back side of the mirror switch and window controls. Disconnect them.

If you pull the handle bezel out, you’ll see the door light has a big connector which you can disconnect.

The door lock switch comes out with the 7mm bolts on either side.

Your panel is loose enough to get to the trunk open switch which you can now disconnect.

Behind the panel, you’ll find a layer of foam cloth which should be glued on. Mine was not because of the years of rain damage.

So here is what is looks like under it all.

Ugh… so dirty.

Remember to remove your Buddha

Now you are free to do whatever you want with your door panel.
You can fix it, clean it up, adjust your window, or replace your switches.
I made mine some breakfast.

See you next time when I post my antenna removal.

Very timely thread for me. Two days ago my "door adjar" connector dropped down inside the door when I took the switch off to replace it. I didn't know the connector would drop! Nice to know about those "secret" screws.

Loved the "breakfast" pic!

Default Mirror switch?

From looking at your pictures, it looks like all I would have to do to get to the mirror switch is to remove the two screws in the handle recess. And then pry up the housing that is holding the window and mirror switches. Is that correct?

This is such a fantastic post.

I just used this again over the weekend to completely remove the drivers side panel and then used another post to guide me through removing and replacing the window regulator in my 95.

BrianCunningham I looked and looked for the bottom door fasteners. I was able to find them in black on a fastener website but could not find them in beige which is what I need.

I could only find black as well. I bought some beige plastkote and painted them. Not perfect but close enough for a driver. You could go to an auto paint store and get some SEM brand paint that would match.
