'86 strange sound

'86 strange sound

I have a strange sound from my 86. At about 3000rpms there is a "air sound" coming from what I think is my throttle body. The sound is like when you open a high pressure air fitting from a compressor. its a pretty loud "woosh." It is most notable when you open the throttle and allow the revs to go to at least 3000rpms and then close the throttle. I thought it might be a pulley bearing but I am pretty sure that the sound is coming from within the throttle body. Maybe its the egr pumping exhaust back into the intake? I just dont know I am at a loss.

You can eliminate the pulley question by removing the belt and trying it.
If the noise is still there, get a mechanic's stethoscope and se if you can pin down the sound.

On high mileage c4s the throttle body shaft can wear and can cause noise like you are experiencing.

took belt off, the sound is coming from the throttle body.
