I have a 1996 LT4 that I am getting codes P0335 and P0336, or the crankshaft position sensor codes. I just changed out the optispark and waterpump and when I started it up the first time I got these codes. The car runs great, no problems? I have pulled the plug out of the sensor, cleaned it and put it back. I still get the codes. When I took the crank pulley off to get to the optispark, I had to pound it with a piece of wood from the back side. Any advice before I try and just replace the sensor?
If that is my next move, what is the best way of replacing it out?
The sensor may be bad if you are certain you got all the plug wires on correctly.
To replace it remove the one nut from each motor mount and jack the engine up about an inch or so. You will able to get a wrench on the one bolt that holds the sensor in then. I believe it's 10mm. It's still pretty tight in there though.
I guess you have cleared the codes just to see if they return.
Well, it turns out that when I was using a board to get the crank pulley off, I must have given the sensor one good wack... When I took it out, it came out in two pieces. $40 and half hour getting the dang thing off and the new one on and the problem is fixed.
