Allright, the engine is coming together, but before I put on the manifold tell me what you guys think.
I have AFR 195 with upgraded springs (don't know the seat pressure off hand, but they will accept more than .6" of lift). AFR said these are good up to 7000 rpm (but what does that really mean?).
I have a tpis ZZX cam. Gross lift w/1.6 CC pro mag RR's is about .595.
I'm looking to get 6700 rpm's out of this motor. Is this feasable? I don't really want to go to a solid roller lifter, but I will if I have too. What about a rev kit? Or can I expect these numbers on springs alone?
Re: Solid roller lifters, rev kit, or am I O.K.? (C4-Wolf)
Get some comp cams pro magnum lifters and you should be alright. They are supposed to do a very good job in the high RPM's compared to stock lifters. I only turn mine to 6300, but I have been very pleased with them.
My friend built his 396 and he's gonna be using the comp cams lifters to hopefully turn 7000.
Re: Solid roller lifters, rev kit, or am I O.K.? (C4-Wolf)
It's not a good idea to mix solid lifters with a hydraulic cam, or vice versa. It HAS been done and can be made to work, but it's not for a daily driver.
Re: Solid roller lifters, rev kit, or am I O.K.? (C4-Wolf)
My rev limiter comes on at 7200 and have had no problems with valve train to date, ( knock on wood). We use the comp lifters, rockers, springs, hardened pushrods and girdle. Also installed 7/16 studs. Normal shift is done at 7100 to 2nd, 3d, and 7000 to 4th.
Re: Solid roller lifters, rev kit, or am I O.K.? (C4-Wolf)
You cant use soild lifter for a hydraulic cam, and you may want to ask how much seat pressure you have because it is not good to go over 135 on a hydraulic cam.
I dont know what intake you have but if you have the TPI then I dont think the intake can breath past 5000rpm.
