I think I saw this in an old thread but just wanna be sure. Can I replace my '89 fuel pump without dropping the gas tank. Is it possible to just take off the fuel filler assembly on top of the rear deck and get to the fuel pump. Seems I saw in a Chilton book that the early C4's required dropping the tank.
Thanks for replies
edit: This is the post/thread I aw that makes me think I can remove the FP through the gas filler area
Replacing your fuel pump is a 30 minute job. No need to drop the tank. You won't even finish the second beer. Remove the fuel filler assembly, and out she comes.

You absolutely can. That is the way it is done. The Chilton indeed calls for the complete removal of the tank to remove the pump which is completely unnecessary. It makes me wonder how many poor smucks out there ended up dropping the entire tank for nothing because they read it in the Chilton.
