My PKE system is acting strange again. I replace the door switches on the outside hope this would help, but it didn't.
Everything about the system works except.... while driving (with it armed), the "passive keyless entry" light on the DIC flashes ramdomly. It may go for 3o minutes and not flash, then blink several times of ramdom length, then go out again. It has in the past on occasions, cycled the locks and sounded the horn while driving. Anybody have any experiences like this? The next move is probably to replace the PKE receiver module. I have two transmitters and it does the same things with both.
...Not the same PKE problem, but still odd behavior from it in my 96 CE. It occasionally goes into what I'd term PKE spastic mode. That is, as I'm driving the door actuators begin to flutter and even occasionally lock or unlock the doors. I've looked for a lost second fob that might be loged under the seat etc, reset the PKE numerous times and replaced the fob battery.
The only thing that ever held the problem in full abeyance, was removing the battery from the fob. I am beginning to suspect the fob's circuitry as the culpret. When it's not acting weird, the system works perfectly! Cire96
If it is only acting strange while driving then I will guess at a short or ground that is vibrating loose. Movement of the car leads to the wires moving, otherwise it would do it all the time in a static position. Hard to diagnose that is for sure. Good luck :seeya
cire96 - My '96 has the same symptoms yours has. When I bought the car it lacked the key fob. It went through a few bouts of the locks fluttering, mainly if it was driven in damp/rainy conditions. I pulled the PKE fuse, locks still seemed to do it.
Kept the car in dry conditions and the problem disappeared for a long while.
Later I purchased the key fob. Strangely enough, the problem briefly occured once again (for a few short minutes). My first instinct is a bad ground in the system (since the PKE gives no trouble codes when checked). If this problem starts to reappear with any frequency, then I'll be pulling the door panels, checking connectors, and possibly replacing the lock switches.
Until then, I'm just gonna let it be occasionally quirky :)
Thanks for the validation of me not being the only soul with a haunted 96. My previous owner lost one of the two fobs the car came with and I've hypothysized that if it's in the car, it could be somehow connected, but alas I've turned the car inside out but so far no missing fob. :flag
