Hey guys, I have a 91 vette hard top, with the Bose Gold cd and tape. When I turn on the radio, I get bad noise out of the left rear speaker. I have NO audio output out of the others. I think I have 2 problems. One I think an amp in the left rear has gone bad, and two I think the reciever is bad. Where is the reciever located? Any ideas on how to test it? The head unit appears to work fine, as it raises/lowers the antenna, all lights work, it accepts tapes and cd's and ejects them, but I have no audio output, and a bad scream out of the left rear. Any ideas? I want to keep the bose system, dont ask me why, but I do....Please help!
The stereo will take the cd's and tapes, but again, I have no audio out put. I have been told, that the cd, and tape, work through the stereo reciever?? I have no clue. Any thoughts?
I just had the bose cd player and receiver repaired in my 94 by Doctor Don's. I would use them again, professional and fast. You can give them a call (936) 435-1811 or http://www.doctordons.homestead.com
Ben, i have replaced all of the amps in mine over the last 2 years and the best place i have found is American Corvette Inc. in Powder Springs. they are Bose specialist's 770-993-1633
still looking for the location of the reciever. Any one know where it is? I disconnected the rear amp, and can BARELY hear any audio. That is with it turned all the way up, so maybe the reciever is bad as well?
I don't know for sure on a 91, but I had a 90 and the receiver was under the glovebox. You had to get to it from underneath the dash from the passenger floorboard. Real pain in the _ss.
Have the same problem with my 92 Bose Gold unit. My solution ... and the most common response you'll most likely get here is replace the entire system with an after market system.
Better performance ... less frustrating
By the way the receiver is under the glove box ... and very difficult to get at. If you plan on taking the receiver out ... pre-schedule an appointment with your chiropractor.

Mines sounds just like this when I insert a CD. Then, it sticks inside and will not eject, all the while sounding just like your audio problems. I then have a devil of a time getting out the CD, playing with the eject button for what seems like hours, till it finally pops out.
Maybe you have a CD stuck in it???.....just a thought to check this before you start tearing into things.

I think he has a e-mail address for questions, too. It's on the site.

My cds stick if they are home grown and have the pressed paper labels on them. Purchased cds....no problem
In the '92, the receiver is behind the passenger seat under the tray. You'll have to pull the carpe t up and you should find the receiver velcroed to the side of the well. The tray just lifts out. The amp relay is the two inch square relay you'll see when you look in. Just had to pull mine over the weekend.
This should probably be moved to Audio/Electronics. Behind the fuse box, accessible from under the passenger dash, check all connections to your Receiver.
BTW: I can match colors with my aftermarket HU & use existing speakers. Bypassing the Bose Receiver (of course). Sounds pretty good. But, I still plan on wiring new speakers in soon. Hey, it's old equipment! How old's your home stereo?
