crawl under the vette and look at the driver's side of the transmission there you will find a electrical connector (grey)just unplug it. you can buy a eliminator plug to protect the connectors or just wrap them to keep oil out of the plugs

The worst thing GM ever did. How anyone can drive the car with that thing connected is beyond me. It is the 1st thing I did when I got the car home from the dealership. It has been 14 years but if I remember, just raise the car on the drivers side and next to the trans on the drivers side you will find a wire connector. Separate the wire connector that makes the connection that will disable the solenoid that locks the shift linkage forcing 1 to 4 shifts. The dash will still indicate 1to4 but you can shift normally. Several after market corvette parts suppliers make a cover for both ends of the connector along with a cable tie so you can close off any opening on the connector halves and tie the wires up out of the way.
