I just put my car back together (replaced injectors) and by golly it started!!! I was thrilled. Problem is there is a great sucking noise from the drivers side!! I had to have the intake gasket replaced in Oct (at a garage) and all of the gaskets were replaced. I didn't put more than a 1,000 miles on after that then put it up for the winter and began taking it apart. Anyway, I didn't replace the gaskets on the intake for the runners... could this have been a bad choice??? I didn't know how to get the old ones off and scrape them without getting the crap in the holes to the intake! Now I obviously have some sort of vacuum leak. Am I doomed to take it apart again? If I do, should I take both runners off? Is there any way of determining if this is the problem. It's damn cold in my garage when it's only 20* outside! Spring will be here soon but I want my ride ready!! Suggestions?
Could be cold start injector O-ring didn't seal well. Also the brake booster can cause this. Chances are that's not it. Check the injectors. Spray some WD-40 and watch for leaks. I've reused my gasgets before without problems, but it's possible that is the problem.
Sounds like a big vacuum leak. With the car running, take a can of WD40 and spray around the intake and you will tell right away wear your problem is. Big Bummer :( :(
Just a tip if you have to replace the gaskets..... use some old very clean rags to put in the heads. Use a large plastic (10 gal ) garbage bag to put in the valley to catch the small pieces . AND... hook up the vacuum hose (house type) and as you scrape the old gasket off, the vacuum will suck up all the old chuncks. After you get it running, change the oil and filter. A little PITA but well worth the time.
