On my '88 I believe you can adjust the height of the pin assembly that goes into the latch, might help.

the hood pins are adjustable. Look at the hood pins that are attached to the underside of your hood. Loosen the locknuts, adjust the pin by using a long slotted screwdriver, re tighten locknut. Takes a lot of trial and error.

Are you talking of the spring loaded pin? I believe he is speaking of the hood at the nose, i know mine has a lot of play up front, just something else to fix.

With play up front I would suspect worn pivot pins.

Not really sure how to adjust them quite yet
To tighten the latching you would screw the locking pin inward so that it would pull the hood down lower when latched.

I just checked it out, and im guessing what you are telling me to turn is the piece that has the Rubber Cap on the end? I tried with my hand but wont budge, didnt have tools handy as it was late and i just wanted to check it to see...?????? Is that the right piece to turn?

I had this happen on the passenger's side of my '94 ragtop. Took me a while to figure out the source of it. I solved it by applying a little bit of grease to the latch and pin on that side. Haven't heard it since. I suggest you try to lube it before adjusting anything.

Live well,

SJW

two adjustments possible; bumper (little black mushroom gizmo on cowl) can be raised, or latch (metal pointed thingie hanging from hood) can be screwed in...several i've seen rattle cause one latch is not even going in far enough to lock in, may need to go the other way with adjustmment, with hood in normal 'down and locked' position, grasp trailing edge of hood at windshield and try to pull up.

Mine did that when I bought it. It was pretty easy to adjust like jon0108 said. Just don't go too far too fast. It only takes a little tightening (most likely). Don't shut your hood with your doors open after you adjust!!!! I learned that the hard way. It chips your paint if the adjustment isn't right. After you adjust look at the gaps between the doors and hood to make sure it is acceptable and won't rub. I would just go in 1/4 turn and see where you are at. Then you can always go right back to where you were and go the other way if it gets worse.

the bumper (rubber topped mushroom) on the cowl has a 10mm locknut at its base...when new the bumper can be turned by hand, but rust/dirt may require using pliers with cardboard to protect the threads on the bumper shaft from damage, severe cases need to pull the rubber off and grab the metal top of the adjuster with vice grips.

the hood-mounted 'hangin pointed thing' has a 1-1/2'' (wrench size), formed sheet metal, spring seat/locknut at its base that should be loosened before using an appropriately sized flat bar in the slot at the end of the hpt...use a box end wrench on the spring seat/locknut to prevent distorting it, not an open end or fitz-al

both adjusters are 'right hand thread'...'least chance of mess' would be to raise cowl 'mushroom' bumper by turning that anti-clockwise (looking down from above), IF IF IF you are certain the latch is engaging.

I could see my 86 hood shaking when i drive it. I could move the hood by lifting from the tire well. I just replaced the hood shocks, now it does not move at all. Hope this helps.
