My newest Summit mag has a block in it, seems like the deal is they get a 350 block, worn....with 4 bolt mains.
The align bore it, take it 30 over, completely clean it up, and sell it as a "ready to assemble" block, with all machining and clearancing having been completed.
I left my mag at work, but I think it was like 750.00 with shipping...
Now, to me...that is a smokin deal for a completely ready to assemble block. Considering my alternative is to have my old 2 bolt block refurbished, and only have a 2 bolt block, and still have to pay to have it clearanced...
Added bonus is it is a 96-2000 1pc rear main seal...
Also, it can accept a roller cam/lifter setup as it sits..
Anyone layed hands on such a block?

I completely forgot to write this. I'm finishing up my 3rd 383 build right now. Previously I've always bought a GM 4bolt block for around 100 bux, brought it to a machinist and paid for it to be align honed, align bored, decked, clearanced, bored, etc, etc. This machine work usually is between 1000-1500 bux. So to have a read to assemble block costs me around 1100-1600.
For the build I'm doing now I bought a fully prepped GM 4 bolt 1piece RMS delivered to my door for 715.00 !! I've gone through, inspected all bores, deck heights, stroker clearancing and overall quality of work. The blocks are apparently coming out of Mexico but are geniune GM blocks and the workmanship is GREAT!! Truely a take delivery, wash it and start assembling. I'll post some pictures if needed but I really can't say enough good things.
Wow, that looks to be a pretty dang good price if the machining is up to par. I have a hard time finding 1 piece rms blocks for under 500 bucks without any machining done.
Just remember the '85 had a 2 piece rms stock so you'll need a different flywheel..
had a machinist look at my block, and I was told that to do the 383 build up with that old block, it would obviously need to be bored 30 over, and line boring would be helpful, then to do freeze plugs, cam bearings, clearance it all, and "prep" the block, as in bead blasting...would be fairly pricey. He gave me a quote last month, I dont have the exact figure. Then my jeep blew up...and had to spend $$ on finding a ride at the spur of the moment.
Now Ive built back up my project $$...and I saw that block in the magazine. I like the 1pc RMS...seems less likely to seep over time.
And to be a 4 bolt block, newer block (at least 11 years newer), already machined and ready to assemble...It seems like it would suit me fine for a mild 383 build.
I mean, as big of a fight as that old engine put up when I pulled it from the car...I really dont want to ever have to pull it again when I put another engine in.
Sounds like a good deal......now you can sell me your Voodoo cam, heheh.
Actually, Im ditching the 60101 and going with the 60103 because the larger cam drops the dynamic compression to a more workable level.
Im going to hang onto the 101 cam but use the lifters that came with it, with the 103 cam. Ill probably use the 101 cam on a later build-up or something...
What I am really surprised by is that you can't find an L98 crate motor, or a 383 TPI built and ready. Just about everyother GM engine, but not that one, go figure.

I am trying to convince my engine builder to offer them. There is a market to satisfy, and there is not alot of options for the L-98 guys.
