My 700R4 is acting very strange. It seems to be skipping 2nd gear. As far as I have been able to determine, it is staying in first gear until approx 2200 rpm on a normal takeoff. If I start off with the shift lever in the 2nd position, it will not shift again until I move to 3rd.
The trans also seems "mushy". I serviced the fluid and filter about 3 months ago.
I'm a student in an auto-transmission class so I don't claim to be an expert, but I do know that fluid is directed from different locations to cause an automatic shift and a manual shift. If you have a manual second shift, but not an automatic 2nd shift I'd say you probable have a bad seal, which is causing an internal leak. Hope this helps

That sounds right on, mine was doing the same thing a while back and it was a bad seal. If you know any local transmission mech that are good, just take it to them. Must the time they can just drive it and tell what it is. "Most of the time!"
