Ok I wanna know what the tech differences between the '84 and later vettes are. Like was there any recalls? Anything besides the Cross-Fire that they changed or improved on in the next years? I know there was a lot of improvements between say the 84 to 91 cars but I wanna know what the short term improvements are cause I wanna know why the '84 Vettes are so much cheaper than the L98 ones.
One of the big differences was the ride. I've never ridden in an '84, but everyone says they are really rough. I suspect that and the Cross-Fire are the main differences. The 6-speed in '89 was a big improvement over the 4+3.
Re: Whats the diff with the '84's?? (billreid1@***.net)
They are so much cheaper because people spread rumours about them being crap. They are not, the l83 crossfire is a little down on power but that can be fixed. The engines are extremley reliable, easy to work on. The 84 z51 is one of the best handeling cars out there. Yes they ride rough, but i wouldnt have it any other way. My 84 will run circles around my 91. The rest of the differences are just minor upgrades and tweaks, year to year. 89 brought the 6spd, 90 brought the interior.
I read some where that the stock spring rate for the 84, was the Z51 spring rate for the 85 and up, and the 84 Z51 Spring Rate was no where near the stock one.

(except the part about the 84 being better than the 91 - I don't own either :jester .
IMO, 84's don't ride that rough. You should try my 90 Z51  .
Mine used to ride pretty rough. I changed my shocks and now they give when i hit a bump! Yes, crossfire injection has gotten a bad rap in the 84, but it didnt in the 82 which was the first year EFI was dropped in the vette. These cars are great and i love mine to death!!

I don't have any experience in any C4 besides mine, but as far as handling, it is certainly the best handling car I've ever owned. If anybody here is familiar with the bridge on RT8 in Seymour, CT, this is where I first "tested" my car's capabilities. Going North on RT 8 I took the bridge in the passing lane at 93 mph and stayed in the lane except at the very end of the bridge when I crept into the driving lane a little. I noticed that the body remained flat and the tires didn't give up any traction, however I felt as if I was going to fall right out of the drivers seat. This car can definitely out-handle my driving capabilities.
