Default 383 to 406...should I?

Seriously kicking around the idea (depending on price) of going to a 406c.i. from my current 383. Im thinking I would just get a 406 short block from LPE and use my current heads/intake setup.

Anyone wanna help me make a decision?

I did and I'm happy. I used the same heads and am just under a half second quicker. Still using the SuperRam too.

More cubes the better for our heavy street cars. You will like that 4.125+(probably 4.155") bore, and you might consider stroking it.

A Dart 400 is on my wish list (4.125 x 3.75). I'm thinking my AFR 195s and SR will go well. The smaller bore leaves room to bore it again in another 100K. I'm trying to figure out how to cam it.

I was actually thinking that after I posted this about the 421 or 434. Recieved email back from LPE and doesn't seem like a 406 is even a option from them. He suggested a GM LS2 or LS3 crate engine. So I guess I'll have to do some more research.

that's pretty interesting that even LPE is suggesting going Ls-x swap instead of big-inch traditional small block?

Depending on what you're looking to spend, the options are WIDE open....

BTW- just to toss fuel on the fire, RHS currently builds a tall-deck Ls-x that can support 500 cubic inches...

LPE doesn't do anything on first gen sbc's anymore. That doesn't mean you can't make big power with a first gen engine. I am sure they are trying to make a sale. There are still a ton of options for first gen engines, and the wiring and computers will hook right up, and the engine bolts right in.

We have a build coming up in the next month or so and I am trying to talk the customer into a set of the Profilers.

The Bowtie blocks are a good choice if you can find one as they are hard to get right now and they seem rather pricey over the Dart blocks!!

They need a lot more clearancing then the Dart blocks!!!

I love my dart SHP 400 block. Just like OEM roller blocks but 2pc rear main. Works good on my turbo car. 4.125 bores love air flow, so get a decent 210-220cc head. I wish I would have, but for now i'm stuck with my 195's.
