I just bought a 96 LT4, mint car, but today I decided to take it for a ride with a friend and boom, check engine light, so I thought instead of risking it Id take it in to be put on the machine. The mechanic came back and said "sir come with me" it turns out all 8 cylinders are misfiring, he said it could be anything from bad fuel injectors to a small hole in the intake, what a day! I think Im gonna go cry now lol, I had to cancel my spring break and everything so I can try and save up money to have more damn tests done..... Grrr :mad
See the C4 section, but think about this: what are the odds of ALL EIGHT injectors going at the same time? The "hole in your intake" idea is interesting, but how on earth would that happen?!?!
I had a similar problem on my C4 and a buddy
had it happen on his LT1 Camaro. In my case
it was a bad PCM (try a swap and see if it fixes it)
and in my buddy's case it was a cam position sensor.
$60 part and hour and a bit to install (once they found it).
The trick is finding a mechanic who knows what the problem is.
They are out there, maybe a vendor or someone will see thing
and give you some good advise.
can you find out exactly which code its throwing ? then you could throw the code number out there and someone can help you understand what your car is trying to tell you. alot of codes can be cleared fairly easily and you can save some of your cash. good luck...
Could be something as simple as an ignition wire rubbing against teh water pump. That's what happened to me. Maybe Opti is on it's way out, but if teh check engine light came on, it could be the PCM.
Seems like U may be able 2 keep more money than U thought and still be able 2 get that Spring Break in. Get another opinion, maybe from a shop in your area that work on Vettes or high performance cars.
