It's a long shot since I don't have a whole lot of info on this, but here it goes:
On my 96 sometimes (but not always) when I start out from a stop (also happens when I start forwards after reversing and vise-versa) I get a very audible "clicking" noise (2 or 3 "clicks") from what it sounds like is the passenger side rear wheel area. Any ideas?
A buddy with the exact same car as mine has described the same noise coming from his car, although I am not sure what wheel / area.
Do a visual on each side.....sounds like the U-joints. Jack up a side and look at the u-joints then see if you can flex them. One or more could be worn.
The u-joints in the shafts going from the differential to the wheels are new. I will check the set in the drive shaft tho. It's been awhile since I heard a u-joint noise, but I wouldn't characterize the noise I am hearing as a u-joint.
Hi I have an 85 and had exactly the same . I changed the u joints bt it did not dissapear.
I have read that there is a wafer at the rearbearing hub that may be the case but I tooth the bull by the horn and changed the rear bearings and the noise dissappeared. I put in a new waferther e as well.
Look at the exloded view of the rear suspension there you will see the wafer I talk about
When I have had bad u-joints they have made noise rolling slow and going over bumps as well as starting out. When I had the noises you describe the washers fixed it up.
I JUST had a rear wheel bearing replaced, so it sounds like we have found the culprit.
My question is: how come it never did it before? This is the third rear wheel bearing to be used on this particular corner of the car since I bought it.

sounds like a loose spline in the rear wheel bearing, where the half shaft goes through. Thats what mine was doing a few years ago, replaced it and its been fine since. I replaced the half shaft bearings first, and I could tell as I took them apart they were neither loose nor dry.
Well the car. I get a clicking on my left rear when I'm loading, when I turn left and it stops loading to the right. I'm gonna put on a new hub. So I will ask, it it as easy as the axle nut, the three bolts and pull it off. The car is a clean 19 years old.

I had a similar clicking noise on my 94. It seemed like occasionally it would do it when starting from a stop just after it moved and more often if I was turning.
