How do I remove the shift ****. 94 6spd
I bought a new shifter boot and I'm wondering how I remove the shifter **** on my 6 spd.

Take the plastic piece out with the shift pattern on it.
The hard part is you have to pry up/out what is, in effect, a large square nail. It's actually a wedge to hold the shifter head on.
I used a brake tool that looks like a minature crow bar. Others have used anything from vicegrips to a screwdriver.

Yup, its a PITA. After failing with screwdrivers and vice grips I eventually got the wedge out with a tool designed for opening paint cans.

A flathead screwdriver should work just fine.

I have heard horror stories about that square key, but I was able to pull mine out with my fingers. Good Luck!
