I have recently just started having problems with my 1996 bogging out; Changed my crankshaft PS, because that was the code i was getting; then I had a code of Multiple misfires; So I said F OEM Opti and went with MSD Opti, MSD Wires, and ac delco plugs, finally went through the process checked everything 5 times everything is done correct, but now I cant even get the car to turn over? it gets close and it sounds like a shot gun going off. I took my time and doing everything but i can not figure this out I have been without my car for a month and a half and have spent over 1K in the process. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
Spark timing is too early, or plug wires are on wrong cylinders . Locate the engine on compression on cylinder 1 and then check that the timing mark on the vibration damper is on zero degrees. Unplug the injector fuses and crank the engine and use your timing light to see where the timing is.

96 is an lt1 so no timing marks...distributor is mounted on the camshaft and only fits one way...
could be crossed wires...I'd have the coil and icm tested first.

Sometimes a picture can help no matter how careful you have been, really sounds like it is out of time, see post #6 in this thread, some guys have managed to install the late style Opti incorrectly.
Thank you for all of the reply's Greatly appreciated! One more thing is it possible that if my battery is not charged up all of the way, could that cause my car to backfire because it takes about 4 turn over to get it close to starting? Thank all of you for the insight on my car problems.
