Well I went & pulled a stupid last night. When trying to get the timing cover off the motor I tore the oil pan (front) seal off the engine. *#$&@($&*(@$#)@(@*) is close to my comment at the time.
Anyway, can I pull the oil pan to put a new seal on without removing the engine? It looks like I can but I want to make sure.
It's tough but it can be done. I had the tranny out which allowed the motor to tilt back far enough for me to get the front bolts out and actually get the pan out. The pan gasket is one piece, so unfortunately the whole thing needs to come out.
Did mine a couple of weeks ago (tore the pan gasket taking of the front cover also), have to take off the flywheel cover (5 or 6 bolts) and the starter, plus the knock sensor covers. Have the front cover installed first, A little tricky getting the gasket, silicone and all to stay in place while maneuvering the pan back up.
It's pretty easy as the others said with the engine still in the car. If it doesn't want to come out, rotate the crank a bit. The front counterweight can get in the way if it's in the wrong spot. Otherwise it's no problem.
Hmmm.... I know there was no dot on mine-looked at it many times figuring out what to do. Hope that is all that was messed up with it. (Did not degree it).
