I would appreciate some advice on what to check / look for in solving a problem that some of you might have already had.
Once the car is running, and until it goes into closed loop mode, it seems to run fine. When it changes over (to closed loop) it misses a lot during acceleration. I can pop the hood and hear a sporatic "popping sound"; like the sound of a spark jumping when you light one of those BBQ grills with the push-button ignitor. It is very irregular, but very noticeable at idle, and you can really notice it during acceleration.
Also, the car now 'whistles' under both mild acceleration and decceleration. Could be a vacuum leak I guess (the cruise control doesn't work either), but when I pull the vacuum line that inputs to the cruise control, there is a definite vacuum present.
I mention both these two problems in the same thread because they may be related.
I would appreciate any input I can get from the knowledgable vette mechanics on this site.
I had a bad coil wire cause a skip like you describe. Check it and the rest of the wires at night in a very dark place. You'll find that tick then.
Get some Either or Starting Fluid and spray around the intake where all the vac hoses are, If the motor rpms increase you've found you vac leak. Good Luck

A word of caution, as Mike indicated it sounds like you have spark jumping form a spark plug or coil wire. For safety sake find and repair that before spraying anything flammable to isolate a vacuum leak. Spark +fuel = fire.
Look at the wires at night with the engine running and you should be able to see the problem.
