Last week when I shut off the engine with the radio still on and opened the door the radio didn't go off like it always has.Now it does shut off sometimes but not all the time. Anyone know what's up with this?

Thanx

Better than 90% chance it's the door switch getting intermittent. They tend to not last long. Next time it happens, try jiggling the plunger on the switch and see if the radio shuts off.

Spray it with a little WD-40 and push it in a few times. You can also pull the little center piece out of the switch tip with a small flat head screw driver.

I looked at it and looks like it comes off with 2 screws. I wonder if it can be cleaned with contact cleaner or something after pulling the center piece off?

I could never get the old switch in my 95 to work right, so I just replaced it. It was less than $20 for a new switch.

Mine was acting up (the cabin lights would sometimes go on then off with the door open) so I unscrewed it and almost caused a major pain in the butt. There is a plate on the inside of the door that the screws screw into in order to hold the sensor in place. When I unscrewed the sensor and took it out (with wires still attached, the plate slid down the sensor into the door. I had to bend a paper clip and fish my way in there to retrieve the plate so I could screw the door sensor back in, otherwise I would have had to take the door panel off! Good thing is that I got the plate back in its place to screw the screws in, and I think I fixed my sensor by just shaking it around a little...

Give it a try, but be careful!

If you need to remove or replace a door switch:

Remove one of the screws. Install a longer screw in its place, but only thread it a few turns into the nut plate.

Remove the other screw, and pull the switch assembly out as far as the longer screw will allow it to go. It should now be far enough out of the way that you can now run the short screw back into the hole behind the switch, and re-engage the threads on the nut plate (run the screw through the door, but not through the switch). Now the short screw will keep the nut plate from falling.

Remove the long screw, pull the switch the remainder of the way out, and disconnect the wiring harness.

Connect the new switch, push it part-way into the hole, install the long screw through the switch and door, and thread it a few turns into the nut plate. The long screw will now hold the nut plate while you remove the short screw.

Push the switch the remainder of the way into the opening, and install the short screw into the vacant hole, then snug everything up with the short screw.

Replace the long screw with the other short screw, and you're all set.

Close the door GENTLY the first time to seat the plunger's built-in depth adjuster to the proper depth.

Be well,

SJW
