383 guys what weight oil do you use and what kind?
Currently I am running Mobil-1 Synthetic 5W-30 in my 383 car. When I first start the car the oil pressure is around 45-50 psi. After sitting in traffic a while and the car gets warmed up to around 180 or so the oil pressure drops to around 25-30 psi. Before I was running Valvoline SAE-50 racing oil and the pressure always stayed around 45 psi even when the car was warm and in traffic. I know that 25-30 is an acceptable level, but the higher the better I think. The vavloline seemed to be extremely thick where the Mobil-1 is very thin. Just curious as to what you all recommend. Thanks in advance. :chevy

Your oil pressure was staying high because of the thick oil. The lower pressure with the thinner oil simply means it is flowing better. Remember, oil is there to keep things moving, not slow them down. The thicker your oil the more HP you are robbing from the engine.

I never thought of it that way, but it makes sense! Thanks for the input!! I thought it was running better after I changed the oil, but convinced myself it was just coincidence. Maybe it did make a noticeable difference! :chevy

Your oil pressure is fine - the normal rule of thumb is 10psi per 1000. You can pick up a few psi by running a slightly thicker oil (even RP will pick you up a little pressure).
