The chimmer that chimes when car is first started is not working. It worked one time last week & never worked before or since. What is a common problem for chimmer not to work?Where is the chimmer located? Can someone post the wiring diagram?I recently bought a Chilton & the interior chimmer is not mentioned.I know I should buy a FSM but moneys tight.Again this is the chimmer that beeps for a couple of seconds inside vehicle when car is first started. My car is a 94 auto. Thanks in advance
It is the chime module which is buried in the dash and is a common problem. Some folks clean/re-solder the contacts. Do a search and you will find lots of posts.
I have not fixed mine....waiting until I have a better reason to get in there.
Basically, you have to re-solder (touch-up) the four or five big contact pins where the module plugs into the wire harness. At least that was the situation with mine (I have a 91). Over the years the joints fail and start acting like a cold solder joint. With mine, I could flex the wiring harness to put strain on the connector pins, and it would work.
On a 91, the chimer is more-or-less behind the Driver Info Center (DIC, indicator lights above the hvac). To get to it, the upper dash cover has to come off. Believe it or not, taking the upper dash off really wasnt too difficult. Hardest part was keeping up with all the misc screws.
I think you will need someone to post the fsm steps for removing the dash.
Thanks for the replies.I've had dash out before(should've dealt with it at that time).Does dash have to come out to access?I believe the warning sound comes on when first start up & possibly when seat belt is not buckled.I'm not a hundred % as it worked briefly. The warning sound didn't sound strong, sounded weak & faded out.Anyone else?I'll also do a search
