A couple of weeks ago some of my buttons weren't working. Then they did work, and today many aren't working. So where do I start chasing down this problem?

The search function is your friend. There are threads here with step by step instructions for repairing these control heads.
CorvetteMike2004 is right. Mine was doing the same thing. Found info on here to make the repair. Its pretty easy to take out the control head and get it apart. Then you clean up the contacts with alcohol and a pencil eraser. Works great.
This usually fixes the problem. One tip: After you remove the unit and it is on your bench (kitchen table, etc) spread a towel on the surface and place the head on it. Then start your dis-assembly. That keeps tiny screws and parts from rolling onto the floor and getting lost.
Let us know how you make out!

Well I was skeptical, and when I got mine apart it looked fine. Rubbed the contacts with a pencil eraser and cleaned with a rubbing alcohol dampened q tip and when I got it all back together IT WORKED. Wahoo!
I have a problem (actually two) with my control head. All but one of the buttons work, but the lights don't light up. Also, the one button that doesn't work is the temperature up button. So my AC is stuck at 60deg, brr. Do you think the afformentioned removal and cleaning is the fix? Thanks all, first time on Corvette Forum and finding it quite addictive for this new Vette owner.
Wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Would probably help your one button but do all of them while you're in there. Odd that all the lights don't work though. Makes me wonder if there's a faulty connection and maybe you can check that when you have the unit out.
I'm gonna try that fix in a little bit. I should clarify that the lights above the buttons actually do work, but only for a second then go dim or out. Weird how on regular cars working on them is a chore. Working on the Vette is actually fun.

hi murray, i had the same exact problem with the buttons, my problem was the vacuum contol valve which is located under the fuel rail on the passenger side, replaced it for 4 dollars and haven't had a problem since. i even bought a new a new control panel for the air and heater control unit.... the control panel did not fix the problem, ha, paid $400 for it and it turned out it was the $4 fix that worked....now i'm stuck with a brand new control unit that i'm trying to sell at a loss Frank
I did it! Controls and lights work perfectly now. There was a little dust/residue in there. Cleaned that up, did the eraser thing, sprayed down with electronics cleaner and scrubbed a little with a Q-tip. Then waited a minute for everything to dry, put it all back together and life is good! Thanks everyone.
