Default Manifold for the S/R

Is there much of a difference is the base manifold for the S/R.
Accel, BigMouth or Edelbrocks? I've heard they are basically
the same manifold. Anyone know for sure? How much better
are they than a ported stock manifold? Thanks

This comes up every now and then, and accel seems to be the choice for the intake.
Some people forget that intakes are usually sold ported to stock runner sizes and if youre going to use large tubes or a SR, to specify that size. Not sure if they charge more for that porting but most intakes usually have a little meat for that extra port work.
Im starting to believe thats what the cases are all about.
Anyone agree or disagree?

I have the stock, Edelbrock, and Accel-Superram manifolds sitting in my garage right now(intake swap in progress).
Stock one was actually made for a 305 motor :chevy .
Ed is not that much bigger than the stock. It's true that some of the aftermarket manifolds are the same ones- just with different names on them. A ported stock won't hold a candle to any of 'em.
The Accel/LPE ports are much larger than any of 'em.
IMHO, the Accel is the way to go. Everything else will constrict at 4800RPM and above. I would take side by side pics, but dropped and broke my dig cam.

an accel base will destroy the stock manifold in hp numbers no matter how much you port the stock one

Vader86, are you in sales for Accel! I seen what my stock port base looked like
when is was complete. Accel piece better, maybe alittle, 10-15 hp. I actually talked to someone at Lingenfelters and they told me yes I could expect a gain,
but it wouldn't be 'earth shattering' over a well ported stock piece

I was impressed by the difference between the Accel and my ported to the limit stock base :yesnod: the Accel has larger runners and more meat for porting than the Edelbrock. 10-15 hp over a ported to the max stocker is a substantial improvement!

Anyone know how much HP a fully ported OEM intake is worth?
