Default oil pressure at 80? help? Please! second post,,

this 90 vert I just bought has had a Lingenfelter cam, and bigger pistons and a higher [pressure oil pump, before I got it 300 miles ago )it probably sat a lot prior to me buying, but I had the oil Changed,,
after 300 miles or so,, the check gauges light is on and the oil pressure needle
is practically pegged at 80 (but does go down some after running a while),, the light goes off, sometimes, after it's been running 20-30 minutes..

this did NOT happen at first, just recently (I did have engine steam cleaned, last week, oops?)

Do I need to put a different oil pressure sending unit on this and if so what?

would one off an LT1 or LT4 work?

Thanks!!

Mark

I have an 85 that has the digital dash and my was reading 80 psi at all times. Last night I changed the sending unit under the dist. and that solved the problem. I hope you have small hands because getting to it uses the brail method. good luck

Yes for the L98 an oil pressure gauge pegged at 80 or displaying 80 on the digidash is an indication of a bad oil pressure sending unit, or the sender losing it's ground connection. :)

Check her out! :)

Check the sending unit of course, but I've got several vettes with high pressure/volume oil pumps, and they pretty much stay at 80 psi, except for when the engine is warm and at an idle, then it drops down to the high 50's psi, but as soon as you touch the pedal its back at 80 psi. And this is normal for engines with high pressure/volume oil pumps. Now about the oil light coming on, more than likely its either short or a bad ground.

When in doubt, put a mechanical gage on it.

these guys helped me with my 80 psi problem last week. mine was the pressure sensor. i took the suggestion of taking off the wiper motor which made it easier to get to. when i turned on my ignition it read 80 and never fluctuated, so you might have a different problem. good luck!!
