Default Amoco Ultimate 93

Filled up with it from down to reserve warning on the gauge. Has to be a bad batch or cut down to a lower octane... car feels different, less responsive. gas is the only variable to have changed, weather conditions on at least two days can be matched back to days prior to the fill up. And yesterday i swear I heard some ping.

I knew this would happen eventually. Always rolling the dice as to if you're actually getting the 93 octane you're paying for... :mad

If you filled it in the last few days u might have 87. I was at a BP and as I started the 93 a voice came over the P.A. and said it was 87. :mad :smash: :smash:

It would't be the first time they pumped regular in the tanks. In Virginia you can report it to the State and they will check the station out.
Maybe you could throw in a can of Octane Booster to get you through this tank.

A very easy way to tell is to look at the gas. It sounds stupid, but 'real' Amoco Ultimate is as clear as water. The lower grades are the normal yellowish color. If the gas you got was not the right stuff, definitely call the Amoco/BP customer complaint line and they'll make it right. Regardless of the state, it's illegal to substitute grades, dilute, etc.

Amoco premium gas sucks, my 93 always ran like crap on it.

Your fuel system could be clogged if it got too low. I've heard of it happening and the pump picking up dirt from inside the tank...

I hope it's just bad gas!

I don't see how this could happen. The fuel pickup lays low in the tank all the time, and any contaminants in the tank would have always been residing on the bottom of the tank already, settling there overnight each night, etc. There is nothing about the level getting low that would increase the chances of any contaminants being sucked in by the pickup any more so than the chances of it happening on the first start on a full tank after sitting overnight or a couple days, after any contaminants might have settled to the bottom.

At least that's the way I figure it.

Plus I would think the fuel pickup would have a finger strainer on the end of it to help avoid sucking in solid particulates over a specified size.
