I think alot more vettes have this problem than people know about. It sounds like piston slap and the knock sensor retarts the timing. The problem is this I determined that my dist. has to much end play on the shaft in it causing a noise that sounds alot like a knock.I bought a reman. dist.and the gear is my question.I have a brand new lunati voodoo cam and I don't want to toast it! My vette is a 90 L98. Can any one give me a direction to go on this? Please! Thanks for reading this,Ron I forgot to ask about the condenser.Mine is a little flat red chip and the reman has a standard round metal one.Is this the wrong dist for my car?

I put in an A1 Cardone rebuilt Saturday. Round condenser also. My original gear was toast at 144000 miles. The rebuild had a new gear on it. I see no reason they install a wrong gear.
Well I took my reman dist back and bought a new gear (melanized one)and a shim kit.The parts store wanted to sell me a new gear for my new reman dist as they couldn't tell me what the gear on the reman was for sure. That and the condenser wasn't the correct one either car runs killer.Just wanted to share in hopes that it may help solve someone elses frustration. I just wanted to add that the strange noise is gone and my timing mark has never been so steady!! Also no more knock counts so I am getting full advance!! It's like a new motor all over again!!!!
