true duel exhaust question

I got some pipes from mid America to make my 84 have true duellies, no cats and i have flowmaster mufflers. Had them installed today and my speedometers stuck at 0 and check engine lights on. Can anyone help me out. My mechanics a slacker? hahaha

Could be that he screwed the speedo connection on the tranny or forgot to reinstall it.

For the CEL, what code is there? If he didn't install a O2 sensor or forgot to connect the wire, it will set a code 13.

Either way, it sounds like your "mechanic" isn't so much a slacker as he is an incompetent.

I don't have any diagnostics tools so I cant read codes myself.... and i'm not quite sure about an "84" with no catalytic converter being illegal but damn does it sound and feel much better! Has to be something to do with that speed sensor on the tranny.... huh...thx!

no speedo IS a traffic infraction in ny if originally equipped with one.

IIRC the speedo/VSS signal 'not present' will kick on the MIL.

In GF is most certainly will. That's just a few mins from me and I haven't had a cat in 3 years. Upstate inspections are different from downstate.

That 96 might need cats but anything before a 94 can be equipped even some stock cars with no cats! And most guys up here don't give us $hits for are old cars not having a cat so I'm hoping he can figure out the problem today..... thanks for all the advice!

I would definately check the O2 sensors as suggested to take care of that check engine light.

As for the CATS... screw em'. I've got true dual straight pipes on my vette going back to Borlas, no cats, no smog pump anymore either and I love it!

It was just the speed sensor by the tranny that had tripped the check engine light as well. Everything's working prime now and it still sounds fantastic!
