Sometimes when I take off, there's a popping noise in the drivers side rear end that happens. The faster I go, the more repetitious the sound is till i get up to maybe 30 mph then i dont hear it anymore. Is it the CV joint?
I've got that same pop or knock sound on my 89 from the rear. Though I hear it when I'm braking and I'm almost 100% stopped. Sometimes I'll also hear it when I'm taking off.
Though I don't keep hearing it. Just the one time when I'm braking or maybe once or twice as I'm taking off.
I know the drive shaft has ujoints. What else has ujoints?

Remove the RR wheel and manualy rotate the brake rotor back & forth while watching the half-shaft. Any rotation of the rotor not transmitted to the differetial output shaft will reveal the problem U-joint.

Do you need the transmission in neutral for that?
Just curious why you need to take the wheel off instead of leaving it on to turn the rotor?
Though, I did check mine via pulling/pushing on the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock. I couldn't really tell anything. I think maybe the driver side wheel moved slightly, but I really couldn't tell. I would figure checking that way, it would be pretty obvious.
How do you check the hubs as they could be the problem?
Wheel needs to be off for visability. The sound you are describing is a U-joint. For the cost, go ahead and replace both on that shaft to prevent needing to do the other any time soon.
The posi will make a popping noise if the rear tire circumference is not equal.
My ujoints look okay on the half shafts. No play or anything. The PO replaced the driver side halfshaft ujoints. The rest are OEM. Though, I need to do the driveshaft ujoints. As the one behind the trans has slung out all its grease.
But I do notice a slight click when I'm braking and taking off that sounds like it is coming from the rear driver side. And sometimes a knock sound.
I checked the hubs, and the rear driver side had a little play. That is the same side the PO had the ujoints replaced. Then when I had the wheel off, I noticed the nut that has the cottor pin was a little loose. So, now I'm wondering if the spindle nut is loose and causing the problem. I'll have a shop retorque that nut just to make sure.
