I did this when I was 17 and to be honest I was pretty disappointed. I drive an 85 with just the 1 cat, and it was still fairly quiet and it didnt have a good sound or tone to it. Since then I gutted the cat, which sounded good but made the cabin noise unbearable, and now I have turbo mufflers and no cat. I am happy with this setup, quiet for cruising and it sounds great when you stand on it.

Burning Brakes
I have them on ( came with the car), they sound good, they are monza muffler eliminators.
I dont think they add any power though but they do have that euro sound, im running and rear balance crossover pipe so its quiet until you hit the gas.

I had Targa muffler eliminators on my 85. They sounded OK on the outside but droned terribly on the inside of the car. Couldn't hold a conversation. I wouldn't do it when there are so many better choices.

I'm running these on my 86. They are not bad for the money and look clean, but I have heard better sounding units. Although when you run both exhaust through one large cat, like the C4 is set up, I'm not sure they will ever sound as good the traditional dual exhaust.

One of the first things I did.
It does drone some at freeway speeds but not bad enough to bother me. Drove it from Columbus to Colorado Springs and back. Drove for 18 hours one day. No problem.
I've had quite a few fellow C4 owners ask what exhaust it was because they like the sound.
Not the best but the exhaust you hear in this clip is my LT1 with muffler eliminators. The black LT4 had stock exhaust and you can barely hear it.

I would love to do muffler eliminators but Im afraid of 2 things:
1.) Cutting the factory exhaust
2.) It will sound bad and or Drone too much

One of the best sounding options IMO, and they cost very little.

The previous owner put them on my 94. At first I thought they were too loud, but I got used to it and really like it now. They are loud when you use the throttle hard, but at light throttle they are mostly just a deep tone. At cruise on the interstate I can hear them, but I still listen to the stereo without having to crank it up.
My 99 has Borla mufflers and I think it may be louder.

There would be a difference in sound for LTx vs L98 cars. That's because of the larger pipes on the LT cars.
I did a variation of this by putting glass packs in the rear "Y" pipe. But, I also installed dual 3" slashed resonator tips. The result was quite pleasing w/o the high school drone.
Actually, I think it would have sounded good with just the resonator tips.

What are these "resonator tips" you speak of???

I had eliminators with LT4 tips on my 85 and they sounded great. I put stainless works headers and Y pipe on it and flowmaster super 40's and they sucked. The drone at highway speed was horrible. Have magnaflows on it now and they are OK but I liked the eliminators when they were on it.

SOUNDS GREAT!!!
That is probably the best sounding muffler eliminator exhaust I have heard (on the computer)! I want to hear it in real life!
Is that the stock 2.75in pipe or is the off road y-pipe a larger diameter?

It had a dyno max front y-pipe. (no precats) The rear was a stock y-pipe (2.25) with home made eliminators.
Car no longer has this setup. New motor, longtubes, borla, etc now. It did sound good with the stock motor though.
I had that "elim catback" on the car when the new motor went in....it was too much with the cam and longtubes....no way I wouldn't have been pulled over...sounded like a pro-stock car.

I have this exact set up (Monza tips) on my 85. It was surprisingly quiet with the cat, which I have since gutted. The rear crossover makes a big difference with the drone. I am not generally a fan of how a SBC anything sounds, but I am pretty happy with it and have received compliments on the sound. I may put a Hi Flo cat back on to quiet down on the inside a little. All of my pipes are stock diameter, this makes a huge difference on the noise level. I have a 413 Mopar with headers and Turbo muffs and went from 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 inch, and there was a big difference in sound. I had a crossover put in and knocked it back down. Still sets off car alarms...which I find somewhat amusing.
