Corvette Richmond Six Speed Question
In your opinion, is is better to rebuild the 4+3, or go with something else?
I think it is more durable than the 4+3 (however regular maintanence should keep the 4+3 running good).
since you don't want gear noise then a rebuild of the 4+3 would be best, its less expensive than the richmond (unless you have to rebuild it a couple of times then the total cost can surpass the richmond).
I think I am more then qualified to answer this one lol.
The transmission is very noisy, but always shifts smoothly for me. It also leaks some from the case a little bit. I have contacted Richmond and these 2 things are normal, it is a race transmission after all.
On a more positive note, the gears are cut like the old M-22 Rockcrusher and the transmission is about as durable.
If you dont mind listening to gear whine in the lower gears and just general noise (although subdued by a decent motor) the richmond is great :D
Another great thing about the Richmond is the options you can specify when you order it, you can change your individual gear setups (my 6th final ratio is only .91:1 which is pretty high), goto richmondgear.com and check out the diff ratios.
I would recommend you have at least a 2.93 or so rear end, I have a 3.45 and the car is all about 1/4 mile and take off, its not good for much over 140 or so unless I want to tach the crap out of it. But that is with my ratios.
Good luck Man!!
Rich
