The VE table is considered the "fuel curve" right? Obvioulsy I know which one is the spark curve.. but there is no fuel and VE is the only thing I can think of since it has to do with AFR.
Correct. The VE table is the Volumetric Efficiency table. The number in each cell is how efficient the engine is (theoretically) for that particular situation - RPM/load. If a particular cell tells and engine that it is say... 40% efficient at that moment then it calculates how much fuel would go with that amount of air. Kinda tough to explain now that I'm in here trying to do it so I hope that made at least a little sense.
VE tables IMO are fairly easy to get where you want them although idle seems to like to throw me for a fit quite often. Spark is a bit tougher if you ask me - just seems to take a lot longer. -Jeff
Thanks Jeff. I was pretty sure the VE was fuel. I have VE-Master to do the editing of my VE tables .. i'm trying to get other things like the spark done first since I have to do that manually.
FWIW there is currently controversy as to if the VE tables actually do anything in a MAF based car.
I really believe they don't - try setting yours all to 1 or 2 and you will see no difference in drivability or L-trims - that pretty much answered the question for me.
If you are running in SD mode it's an entirely different situation though!
Glock,
How are the timing tables coming. Just yesterday I trimmed a consistant .75 sec off my ET with just the timing table alone using the method I described to you before. I went with not as much timing at first ~22-25 and the car slowed down about .5 sec. Basically as I described the senario before with the piston being past DTC when max pressure was achieved. I then worked my way up to 29.2* and the car really came alive. Its pretty inpressive feeling. The times are 12.5 sec nearly every run. I will conitinue to advance the timing in very small increments until I start to slow. Then back it back to were best time was achieved. If you understood my instructions before it will really help you out. I am also very confident that there is some more HP in there once I mess with the WOT fuel curve. I am running WAY too rich right now, by the way the plugs look. Still its turning some good times. Once the WBo2 sensor comes, I should be able to nail down the fuel pretty good, then go back and mess with the timing again. IMO these are the only two things you really need to mess with when tuning. I realize there are other little things to play with, but these are the biggies. Let me know how you are making out.

I did a lot of talking with the maker of VE-Master and he says that if the tables are obiously wrong as 1-2% would be, it rely's completely on the MAF. But normally it uses mostly MAF and some of the tables for calculations. I can forward you the e-mails that we talked about if you would like.
Like I said, there is controversy - I know the maker, I did the spreadsheet that floated around for awhile and was the precursor to the program so to speak.
It certainly won't hurt to try, and if your MAF dies your car will be tuned better (possibly) - I just personally don't believe it does anything in MAF mode.
