Default Radiator tank seam blew....

Was driving son's 87 yesterday and was almost home as temp went expontential.

When it cooled enough to add fluid we saw there was a major leak from the radiator.

Pulled it - I have to say the vette is the easiest vehicle to pull a radiator I have even encountered- and stuck a garden hose in it......water pouring out of plastic tank to aluminum seam.

What really got my attention was the bushel of garbage between the condenser and the radiator....leaves, pine needles, cigarette cellophane, and unidentified misc. That crap went 1/3 way up. The rest of it was coated with cottonwood lint, thistle lint, carcasses of untold insects, and who knows what else. Some of this stuff was obviously decades old.

I can't believe the car never overheated untill this point.
Ran up to Summit and picked up a new radiator for $104.99 and dropped it in...seems all is well.

I STRONGLY advise all C4 owners to pull the air cleaner assembly and radiator cover and clean out that sh!thole. You can back flush with a garden hose and clean out the fins.

Might be surprised how much cooler your vette runs.

Did you find any rats, squirrels or raccoons?

^^^^^^ Funny! We stopped at our local SPCA after lunch today, & when we went in a really snotty employee, instead of saying hello or welcome, speaks down to us like we were three year olds & stated " If you are here to look at the animals, make sure you don`t touch them or feed them--- Understood?". without missing a beat I said " Yeah, ok, we are looking to adopt a petrodactyl. Could you point the way to them?" She turned around muttering & stormed off. Always treat others the way they treat you.
