Default Catalytic Converter Disintegration

All, I just check my 95 LT1 Cats. I have 90Kmiles. The honeycomb was completely gone. What can cause catalytic converter to completely disintegrate?

Thanks, Ken

I'm the original owner. It was never gutted. I saw a small piece of honeycomb at the tail pipe. Something caused the honeycomb to completely disappear..

A rich condition (bad o2 sensor) can damage the cats, also a blown head gasket and coolant gets to the cats can be damaging.

so you are the original owner and you never gutted your cats? shame on you.

Its prob a rich condition caused by a bad o2 sensor. look for all kinds of soot inside there.

I recommend just welding straight pipes through it. May want to check with some of the others, but may pass emissions (if you are unlucky enough to have that crap where you live).
