Hi, i noticed smoke coming from under the hood, at first i thought this was oil at the rear inlet, now i'm not sure!?
After about 1-2 min of the engine starting i noticed smoke coming from the middle of the exhaust manifold(drivers side)!
Could this be oil on the manifold? Didn't think it would heat up that quick in 2 mins to cause smoke! also i can't see any oil in that area!
Could oil leak from under the mani?(head maybe?) i can't see under there!
Is there any wiring in that area?
At first though it could be an exhaust leak, but the fumes wouldn't loft up like smoke right?
I am going to see my mechanic about it, but just wondered if you guys/gals had any idea!
Maybe a leaky valve cover gasket. Could be a little loose. Try to carefully snug the four bolts on top down. Don't go ape on it or the little bolts will break. Just make sure their not loose. Snug them down a little past hand tight starting from the middle and working out to the ends. Maybe someone knows the torque specs and will jump in here.

Thanks will give it a go!
couldn't see any oil around the cover before, but maybe there is some!? or else it could have run from somewhere else!
Engine needs a good clean, so will get mechanic to do that, then look for leaks!

Quite often oil from a leaking valve cover will run down onto the header flange and cause the oil to burn. Pretty much the only source of oil in the middle of the header area. Give the bolts a half turn or so and see if that helps. If not, you may have to replace the gasket.
So i checked the rocker cover bolts, they were all tight except one on the pass side!
there is not any oil running from the rocker covers!
So guessing oil is running from either the front or back of inlet!
Looked at front and there seems to be thick blacks oil and sludgy deposits! guessing the inlet has been leaking for a while with previous owner! back probably the same!
Hope it's not the heads! are they known to leak(common)?
car has 80K+ miles!
thanks
I think you mean intake. They can and often do leak in the front and back ends. However, you said it appears smoke is coming from the middle of the exhause manifolds. I would still bet the valve covers are leaking. Sometimes the gaskets can leak even if the bolts are tight. Clean off the gunk with spray cleaner (or gunk) and try to determine where the oil is coming from. It's hard to tell sometimes if you have years of grime built up. Again, head gaskets rarely leak oil externally. Good luck.
Yeah intake!(manifold)
thanks for the info, i hoped it wouldn't be the heads!
will get it cleaned asap! might have to get some new gaskets for the covers while doing the intake!
Thanks again
