Hi guys, i just cut off my old mufflers off my 1994 lt1 auto corvette and installed two new flowmasters super forty mufflers and now the interior resonace is umberable when you drive.
Has anyone had the same issue?
I left the resonator in place, would a cross over tube help? or do i need to back to stock mufflers.
Thanks
Rick
Flowmasters are notorious for interior resonance, especially the Super 40's. IF the stock resonator isn't helping, you may want to try an X-pipe but it may not do much good.
You could add some sound insulation in the back of the car; something like DynaMat.
Your resonator should have a crossover built in already so a crossover will not help any. I have the same mufflers and I hate them. I tour my trunk/rear apart and put sound mate down (isn't cheap). This did help with resonation but it's still loud. I would put your stock back on or sell them to me very cheap LOL! As far as performance I feel you will get more out of some free flowing cats especialy if they have any miles on them they are probably cloged or falling apart inside. The stock mufflers are good enough for a stock motor in my opinion.
2- put Black Sabbath on CD and turn up louder than resonance
I have Flowmaster 40's on mine; the noise never really bothered me (it's funny when you drive down a street lined with cars and watch in the rear view as you set everyone's alarm off) but to each his own...its similar to having side pipes on a C2!
I have Borla, and the have almost no resonance yet still have great sound... my friend had Flowmasters in a mustang, and i would not go with him in the car because of the resonance, very bad....

I'm with Mark on this one. I'm ordering a set of 40's also.

I got droning even with the fancy Delta Flow 50s. Most aftermarket mufflers will get you some drone its a short exhaust system and youre practically sitting on top of the mufflers. X pipe wont get rid of it
Try some Corsas or go back to a stock type muffler.

This is why Flowmaster offers kits for certain vehicles. Often there is a specific need for a matched resonator and specifically tuned mufflers - as is the case with the LT-1 Corvette.
Basically, if they offer a kit, there is a reason for it - sound control in this case.
If it's that loud, probably need to go to 50s. Flowmaster 40's are good for the track, not great for the street.
I have the 50 series and conversation and the stereo push the exhaust sound into the background. Outside the sound will turn some heads especially when it is cold.

So, is there a kit you recommend that doesnt drone from flowmaster???
I have the drone with my flowmaster pipes(with resonator) and Dynomax Super Turbos. But like mentioned before, Man I like setting off car alarms. And the noise it makes when turning hard... you cant beat it. So they stay. I may try dyna matting

I've got a set of Magnaflows.....just turn up the radio.
may sound weird but i noticed a drone reduction after i installed my long tube headers.and i did a gear change which moved the drone range away from highway speed completely.but that is an expensive solution.and it drones @40mph now,so you rob peter to pay paul.either way super 40s are a mess.
Those are the pipes I have with some Super Turbos on the back. I didnt notice any change from thet resonator with those mufflers. But then again I had on a single 3" midsection and no longtubes and nothing was mandrel bent and it was 2.25" piping, before that. Aswell as stock power. Now My motor dyno's 408hp and 536ftlbs, with a set of mufflers on the end of the headers at dyno time. Not saying the Flowmasters wont change that. I was thinking of Taking that resonator out to see if I can get some more noise. But now I have 3.33's instead of 3.07 so we will see what comes.
