Speedo not working?

Speedo not working?
I finally get my 89 coupe running
and now the speedo isn't working. What causes them to not work?

Bad vss would be my first guess.

Mine just stopped working. Checked the VSS and it was ok. Pulled the tailshaft and the plastic gear had cracked apart.

On the trans. tailshaft housing, on an auto trans. anyway.

Is there a way to check the VSS to see if it's working or do you just replace it?
