ABS problem
Sometimes when I am parking or backing-up slowly braking , my ABS pump starts to operate and the car accelerates suddenly. I have to brake strongly and rapidly to prevent the car from hitting something.
This problem started a few month ago and happens perhaps once every 20 - 50 times only.
Anyonyone has an idea how to solve this problem?

I would not continue to drive the vehicle in that condition which could result in someone's injury or death. Please be safe.
Thank a lot for the advice.
But the brakes do work fine at normal speeds, also at low speeds, never a problem. It just happens when parking, mainly when I slowly are backing-up braking to creep like a snail.
I had something similar happening when coming to a stop. It was my cruise control kicking on. Now I leave the switch in the off position when driving around town.

No, it is a 91. I have to change the text below the avatar, but I could not find how......
'91 ABS stores it's own trouble codes unlike the early ABS which do not have that capability. Is the ABS light coming on when this occurs or at any other time?
I would suspect the computer is not seeing the slow speed. That could be VSS and related wiring or the computer.
My reasoning is that ABS should not turn on until 5mph and should turn off at 4mph (If those aren't the exact speeds then they are close enough for my logic to be valid anyway.)
At slow speeds your ABS should not be a factor.
If you can find a safe place like the parking lot of an industrial area on Sunday morning try to make the problem happen and look at the indicated speed on the dash. I bet when this happens as you're really trying to park your eyes are outside the cockpit! but in a safe place you can look at the dash.
You may wish to look at the plastic gears in the trans too to make sure they have all their teeth.
You can always disable ABS until you get it fixed by pulling the fuse.
wondering if the teeth on the reluctor rings on the wheels are dirty and filled with junk that is allowing the abs sensor to think that the rear wheels are locked up. , or maybe there is a metallic foreign object across the sensor on one wheel.
try going to absfixer.com, and type in your problem in the "contact us" area and see if they can shed some light on this.

The speed is the same as a snail, 1 MPh or so. But it happens perhaps once a week or so.
