Turn Signal Problems
My turn signal lever would lift but not engage the right turn. After taking the steering column apart I realized the pivot part which attaches the turn signal lever to the steering column shell and turn signal switch has a lower plastic race that broke off.
Has anyone messed with this pivot piece to get it off the turn signal leaver, either my allen key as too big or the next size too small or it is just not meant to be separated from the lever?
Do you have to buy a new lever just for this pivot piece?
Has anyone threaded the wires up throught the steering column, it sure is a pain and if anyone has suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
I know this is tough without picts but i could not figure how to attach them.

Regarding threading the wires...
Obviously you have to remove the panels underneath the dash to gain access. It will make your life a lot easier if you take the seat out also. Then you can lay on your back with your head underneath the dash and see what you are trying to do.
There is a plastic wire protector along the bottom inside of the steering column that comes out. As I recall it is clear or milky white in color. It has a button that fits into a hole on the bottom of the column to hold it in place. You can push up on that with a screwdriver to release it and then slide the plastic piece down toward the floor and out. This will give you more room to snake the wires.
Only snake the old wires if you are going to re-use the part attached to them. If you are replacing the part just cut the connector off and make it easy. If you are re-using the part, tape the connector and wire such the the connector will be in line with the wire. That way it will present less of an obstacle when fishing it through the column.

I actually just figured out how to get the turn signal lever separated from the pivot piece and turn signal lever wiring.
I noticed there are none of these parts listed in ecklers. Any ideas on where to find?

Ken, I take it you have a 93. I believe that is similar to the 96 I'm afflicted with.
The "stalk" just pulls out, after disconnecting the little wiring harness for the cruise control.
The pivot thing the stalk plugs into is actually the windshield wiper/washer switch.
The pivoty part works the dimmer switch via a linkage rod.
And the whole deal rotates up and down to work the turn signal switch, which is a separate part.
Can you say "Rube Goldberg"?
I get the impression that you may not have the official GM shop manual. You're kinda working blind without that. This isn't a difficult job, but it is tricky. Some things are not obvious. The book is even a little convoluted in the way it presents the information, but it is all there.
Anyway, I think you'll find when you get it apart that you need a new turn signal switch. The part you're looking at is the wiper switch. You can't see the turn signal switch until you get into the column a ways.

I had to replace mine about 2years ago. It's a real pain but you can do it. I did a write-up un here for someone, do a search and you may find it.
