Default cut air lid

ive read about this in posts about gaining some HP. Does it really help and are there any threads showing how to do it? are there any drawbacks? ive read some where that it is just as good as the slp 3 cone set up.

thanks

Horsepower costs money. Your stock intake is not where you want to start. Air foils and the like, are a waist of money. Think of headers, a cam and maybe gears for a start.

The SLP cold air intake looks great but does little.

I cut mine, didn't notice any change in performance. In theory it looks like it should be good for a little power but the change is likely so slight that you won't really notice anything on the street. But, in the larger scheme of 'every little thing helps' it is a good mod especially considering it is free.

Hope you find that missing "pesky" point.

There was an article back in the day in Vette Magazine. And they proved that the SLP triple intake gained 6hp and a cut lid gained 3hp. So I think for the money you should get yourself a good pair of tin snips and go to town.

I'd get a set of snips and chop it up, but I wouldnt pay for any of the aftermarket air intakes that go in its place.

The cut lid is one of those "freebie" things you can do like taking the frisbee off. No huge gains, no real cost, something to do if your bored.

Just tape out a area to cut then use a jig saw to cut out taped area makes for a nice clean job. Free feel goodmod, takes all of 10 minutes
If you want to remove the paint off the air box and polish the aluminum it looks good also

You have to remeber that your filter will get dirty quicker and that if there is any water on your hood you have to dry it off before you lift it because it will dump onto the filter... Just food for thought but I think everyone is in agreement that it will add an hp or 2 (and its free) but GM did a pretty good job designing the intake and exhaust on the LT1 Vette!
