My '88s about due for a new alt-since my supercharger kit has the alt mounted backwards is there a particular brand that is better suited for this setup or is the direction have no effect on it?
I don't know what he means about switching the fan to the new alternator. Most alternators come with fans. With that said, I did have a problem with my fan. With the Powerdyne kit you may find the fan runs very close to the idler pulley. Mine did and the fan blades would flex and hit the idler. You could see the marks on the fan. I ordered a custom fan made out of billet alum that had no flex to it and fixed the problem.
Yes, the new alt comes with a fan, but when you install the ProCharger kit, they provide a special fan that has the blades going the opposite direction. Make sure you re-use that fan.
Yes. The fan on your current alt. should have been replaced with a fan that came with the supercharger kit that while spinning in reverse will cool the alt. You will need to remove the fan from your current alt. and place it on to the new alt. In addition you may need to increase the size hole in the new alt for mounting if your kit is a procharger.
