Default Cutting back spark plug electrodes

Will cutting back the electrodes on the spark plugs damage anything or cause the plugs to burn up more quickly? Are their any reasons not to do it? Thanks.
Sorry I had this under general before.

I'm running this style. So far so good. I do believe that they helped me pass a smog test I had previously failed 3 times. They weren't the only mod I did at the same time(also retarded timing a little/added octane booster), but I think they helped by exposing the A/F mix more readily to the flame kernel.

It's a safe thing to do and it will provide a bit more spark. The downside, as you mentioned, will be a slightly reduced lifespan. I normally replace mine often (10-15k) so it doesn't really affect me. Of course it all depends on what type of car you have, the type of driving you do, how well you maintain the rest of the car, etc..... I wouldn't worry about it, do it and enjoy the new found power.

What gap do you use, .035" or .045"?
Coil is stock, soon to be Taylor Spiro-Pro Wires.

I'm using a .045" gap. I have the hypertech coil and soon MSD 8.5s after I throw the plugs in. Thanks for the responses!
