By headers do you mean stock exhaust manifolds or aftermarket headers?
On mine, I just undid the bolts, pulled it from the engine block and after a little wiggling managed to get it out. I wish I had a better description of it, but it ended up being easier than I thought it would be.

I dont have LTH on my Vettes but, I have removed the started and did not have to remove the shorties or manifolds. Requires maneuvering and ENSURE you disconnect the battery.
