Default C4 Battery relocation

I was looking at this thread: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...-involved.html, but since it is a little over a year old, I will create a new thread about my plans, and would like your thoughts.

I have a 96 CE, and am looking at installing an Xstatic Batcap sealed battery (or 2 small ones) in the rear compartment behind the passenger seat. Since the battery is sealed, I don't believe I would have any problems with fumes, and can run 2 gauge cables through the firewall (with an insulated grommet to protect the cable) and through the interior (under the door sil perhaps.. looks roomy). I am planning on keeping the existing wires in the stock location, and running new wires to them, possibly with a block to connect them. That way, I can use the stock location as a charging tap. I plan on putting together a low cost dry sump solution, and sticking the tank in the stock battery location.

Anyway, what do you guys think? I know the batcap batteries can be a little pricey (especially if I get 2), but with the small upgrades I plan to make to the stereo, I can use the extra amperage.

As far as dry sump goes... I know many consider it a waste of time and money, but I corner *really* hard.. just kidding... Honestly, I would like to put one together, since it sounds like fun, and I have never done that project before.

The next time you go to an autocross event, check in with the competition C4's to see what they are doing for oil control - I'm pretty sure that most are just fine with trap door baffles in a wet sump. To do a dry sump system the right way you will likely need an oil tank that is much larger than the space currently occupied by your battery.

Thanks for the input. Is there a particular pan manufacturer you would recommend looking at?

who are you running with and what class are you in?

an alternative to moving the battery is to run a race battery, small weight less.
You could even run a C6Z06 battery, they're about the size of a motorcycle battery.

I was going to go drysump, but it was going to run about $5k installed.

For autocrossing a good pan and accusump should do it.

I was looking at a drysump because I do track events.

You will have to check in with the C4 autoX crowd to find the favored pan setup. I agree that an accusump is the way to go for high sustained G-load driving events.

A dry sump build is expensive because it entails more than just a remote oil resevoir - the engine needs to be a sealed system to work properly with a dry sump.

Thanks for the info. I'm leaning heavily towards a 3qt. accusump with a baffled Canton pan. Have you used accusumps before? I'm curious what a good location to put it would be...

As far as the C6 Z06 battery goes, that's a great idea However, after looking at Batcap batteries, they have a model that is 800 CCA (so a little shy the stock battery 875) that run $150 and is a little smaller than the C6 Z06 battery. Since it is sealed, I'm thinking of putting it in the bottom of the hole for the storage compartment on the passenger side.

I have a C5 with a dry sump it is an expensive fragil pain in the butt. I also have a solid roller 383 C4 with a canton road race pan. It has 80k miles on it I have ran it with slicks for years no issues.

If you want more info on a c4 dry sump you can look in this thread (my setup). Even a 'cheap' dry sump isn't really cheap and it's still a pain. I did mine for pretty much the same reason as you're talking about: Seemed like a fun, challenging project. I'm glad I did it and it works great, but it was an expensive pain in the butt.

Nice setup. Yeah, I ran across your thread when looking for info on drysumping a C4, and am impressed. I especially like that in the end you have a drysumped C4 with A/C, perfect for track or street. Thanks for posting the thread with all the perty pictures. I am curious, what are oil changes like, and where did you put the oil filter(s)?
