My car is leaking antifreeze and it does not seem to be from any of the hoses it seems to be coming from the waterpump area. How much is a waterpump and how hard is it to install? If I were to take it to a shop , how much could I expect to pay? Thanks in advace. Guy

Re: 85 L98 Waterpump replace (85vetteguy)
I spent buck seventy on a reman. unit, and a buck for installation from my mech. Not too bad considering it's been a great, leak-free few years, knock on wood. By the way, if you have a high mileage 'vette, might want to consider changing the timing chain while the mech is installing the pump. A good insurance since it take the same hard effort to do the pump anyways. I wish I'd did that before, now I'm worrying about stretched chains...
Mine was about $75 and I installed it myself. Wasn't hard at all, just time consuming. I did also install a timing chain while in there... Cloyes, another $20
I just did mine on my 88. 45 dollars at autozone, for new not reman. Also a lifetime warranty. I figure if it goes out again I'll get it replaced for free. I changed it myself, was'nt too hard, and took about 4-5 hrs.
I have a summit high-flow on my car. I don't know what the belt system is on various year corvettes, but on the f-body, they switched from v-belt to serpentene, which requires a different, more expensive water pump. Just FYI.
The swap is a piece of cake though. Pull the belts off, remove the pulley & hose, and unbolt it. Scrape the gasket surface, and put the new pump on. Make sure to use teflon tape on the bolts.

That must be one plain-jane IROC!!! On a C4 you have the altenator, AIR pump, PS pump, AC compressor, and probably a few other items that, at least, have bracketry using the water pump or it's bolts for support. As stated above, it's not a BAD job, but it does take some time on a C4. I swore that Chevy sent the water pump down the assembly line and built the car around it. I have since changed my mind. They sent the heater core down first, followed shortly thereafter by the water pump.
The distinction between a water pump for a V belt car and one with a serpintine belt is simply one of rotation.
Make sure it's your pump that is leaking. I had mine all ready to take apart only to find it was a three inch bypass hose in front of the throttle body that was leaking. It was dripping straight down the front of the engine giving the appearance that it was coming out of the weep hole. My friend suggested I do a pressure test before tearing it down and sure enough, thats where the leak was. Just a suggestion.
Time consuming, but not difficult as long as you remember where everything came from :) I installed a stewart hi-flo, and while I was at it added a 160 degree thermo and reprogrammed the fans....
